So, a year on from developing a crush on Zooey Deschanel and writing "All I Want For Christmas Is Zoo", I found out that she had gotten engaged to Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. I was obviously devastated. However, as a HUGE Death Cab fan, this put me in somewhat of a predicament. This is the only way I saw fit to deal with said predicament.
(as a footnote, it appears that Zooey is now single again. I realise that, celebrity status aside, these are real people, and whilst far be it from me to be anything but sad to hear of the breakdown of a relationship, this does technically give me another shot to woo her.....)
lyrics
Try to imagine, smiling through the pain,
Laughing through the heartache, and you’re the one to blame.
In 500 days of winter, my heart has turned to stone;
I’m like Joseph Gordon Levitt, and this third rock is my home.
It’ll be Zooey this Christmas, that I’m thinkin of
It’ll be Zooey this Christmas, that I want to hold,
It’ll be Zoo, Zoo, Zoo, that I want to hold, this Christmas.
Remember last Christmas, I wrote you that song,
I was so oblivious, how could I have been so wrong;
I’m so blue, what can I do, now you’ve found your yes man,
I’m so sad, I should be mad, but I love Death Cab.
It’ll be Zooey this Christmas, that I’m thinkin of
It’ll be Zooey this Christmas, that I want to hold,
It’ll be cold, so cold, without Zoo to hold, this Christmas.
Baby, you remember last year, when I wrote you that song;
I told you I wanted you to be my Kwanzaa cutie, my Hannukkah honey, etc.
But that was before I knew about him.
All I want is for you to be happy. And, hey, the guy wrote ‘Transatlanticism’, and I freaking love that record!
Still, it’ll be Zooey this Christmas, that I’m thinkin of
It’ll be Zooey this Christmas, that I want to hold,
It’ll be cold, so cold, without Zoo to hold, this Christmas.
